wow so I'm a college student now. It's so surreal. maybe once classes start I'll be all pumped up and college-ish but for now...I dunno. it's fun, whatevs. Already my room has been downsized to a double, it was a triple but apparently the one girl went and complained and so it's a double now, holla! there's so much room. and my roommate is incredibly awesome and nice and hopefully we'll end up being good friends because we seem to have a lot of stuff in common. she's from Jamaica, too, which is totally cool.
oh god where to even begin, I haven't updated in a few days and so much has happened. (yeah, can't update because my stupid choad of a computer won't get the internet in our room.) We took the Staten Island ferry and toured around the NYU area of manhattan yesterday as part of orientation, I was really tired and hungry so it wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been but whatever. I'm so excited to go into the city next weekend on my own since we have a long Labor Day weekend.
it's so weird, too, having NO ONE tell you what to do. really nice, of course, don't get me wrong--it's just kind of funny. different kids still keep asking permission to go places or whatever and our orientation leaders are like "um...yeah, you're in college now, you don't have to ask."
and apparently as a new thing this year Wagner's letting freshmen audition for the first semester shows, before they weren't allowed to. and the first show is WEST SIDE STORY, which is exciting. I probably won't get a part but I'll still help out backstage and all that. I'm trying to get involved in the theater department in any way possible, too--I am going to fight to be a theater major if it kills me. even though a lot of the freshmen theater majors I've met (there are so many) are pretty annoying, but that's nothing new. the singing portion of the audition this morning went well, and then we have dance at 5:30 (excited about that) and monologues tomorrow night.
the campus really is pretty. there's a great view of the Verrazano-Narrows bridge and the top floor of my dorm building has an AMAZING view of the new york skyline. I'm on the poopy second floor though, all you can see out our window is trees.
so...yeah, I don't know, I'll have to see how class goes. I'm a little scared. but so far college is ok, it'll just take some getting used to. I've talked to my family a few times over the phone already and also called Kelsey last night. a little homesick, I suppose, but nothing I can't deal with. ooh and I got my email address too, I'm going to join facebook which I'm sure everyone is glad of.
